Welcome Dr. Ghadeer Akbar, MD FRCSC GREI
We're pleased to welcome Dr. Akbar to Grace Fertility!
Dr. Akbar completed her 5-year residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at McGill University in Montreal obtaining her first Canadian Board in 2011 and subsequently completed a 2.5 year Fellowship at the University of British Columbia in Gynecologic Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility (GREI).
Following her Fellowship, Dr. Akbar returned to Kuwait where she was the Head of the Infertility and IUI Unit at Farwaniya Hospital as well as providing service at Dar Al Shifaa Hospital in IVF and general gynecology, two of the largest hospitals in Kuwait.
Dr. Akbar has returned to Canada to work together with her mentor and former Program Director Dr. Anthony Cheung to continue providing an elite level of infertility and IVF care. She has a vested interest in fertility preservation for women and couples, and is fluent in Farsi, Arabic, and English.

Outside of work, Dr. Akbar enjoys spending time with her family, running, and keeping fit.
"I knew I wanted to work in fertility when a very close family member of mine, with whom I grew up, suffered from severe endometriosis and infertility. Seeing her struggle inspired me to help others, and study medicine with a specialization in reproductive endocrinology and infertility. The most rewarding part of my job is recording the first fetal heartbeat on an ultrasound."
